Bredewoud/Bredewout/Bredewolt
Lubbert Rutgers adopted the sir name "Bredewout" officially in Heerde in 1826. But his father Rutger Asjes
(baptised 21-7-1734 in Hattem, Gelderland, Netherlands) used the name
long before him.
Lubbert's grandfather, Asjen Asjes (baptised 7-11-1686 in Hattem, Gelderland, Netherlands) is mentioned in the Wedding Book of Hattem (1730) as "Asjen Asjes Bredewolt, young man of the Geldercamp below Heerde". He married at the age of 43 with Margareta Steenbergens van de Gelderkamp.
The son of Lubbert Rutgers Bredewout, Rut, used
the sir name "Bredewolt" again when he married Hermiena van Gelder in Zalk in 1864 (act no
7, 23-7-1864). His son Berend changed it into "Bredewoud" when he married Adriana Allegonda Maijers in Besoijen (Noord-Brabant, Netherlands) in 1888 (act no 7, 13-9-1888).
Rutger Andries
The name "Rutger"
[Germanic name meaning "famous spear"] came into my family when
my 5th great grandfather Asjen Asjer Bredewolt married Margareta
Steenbergens in 1730. Her father was Rutger Jacobs and Asjen and
Margareta named their first born son Rutger (baptised July 21st 1734) .
The name "Andries" [Dutch
for Saint Andrew, meaning "brave man"] came into my familie when
my greatgrandfather Berend Bredewoud married Adriana Allegonda
Maijers in 1888. Her father was Andries Cornelis Maijers and
Berend and Adriana named their first born son Rutger Andries
(born June 9th 1890). He is my grandfather.
